Council for Anglophone Magdalen Islanders

The Council for Anglophone Magdalen Islanders (CAMI) was incorporated in March 1987 with the mandate "to promote and protect the rights of the Anglophone Magdalen Islanders and to encourage them to defend those rights in the following areas: language, social services, health, education, legal services, culture and preservation of heritage, while promoting the right to live in English."

Its main function is to administer its Historical Heritage Complex in Old Harry, which consists of the Little Red Schoolhouse and the Veterans Museum with its Memorial Park. It also owns the museum on Entry Island and has sponsored and organizes the Canada Day Celebrations in the community, and coordinates an annual Remembrance Day Service taking place at the veterans' museum with a wreath laying ceremony in the Memorial Park.

It has also hosted Geordie Productions, which allows a live English theatre troupe to visit Grosse-Île and Entry Island schools each year. In addition the Council presents academic awards for English and French to elementary and secondary levels. Above all it helps to create numerous employment opportunities. C.A.M.I.'s office is located in the upstairs of the former Little Red Schoolhouse in Old Harry.
