Megantic English-Speaking Community Development Corporation

The Megantic English-speaking Community Development Corporation (MCDC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to serve the English-speaking population of the Lotbinière, L'Amiante and L'Érable regions. Established in November 2000 as the overall result of various initiatives to solidify and revitalize a diminishing English-speaking population, MCDC acts as a driving force to foster, develop and implement activities, services and programs to meet the needs of its community.

It offers a wide range of social, cultural and family activities to bring the community together and celebrate its common heritage and works in close partnership with public and community organizations to facilitate access to health and social services in English. It also provides volunteers such as transportation to medical appointments, interpreter services and respite care and collaborates with educational institutions, employers and government agencies to provide job shadowing opportunities, career days, and internships for youth. The group also keeps the community informed through monthly newsletters, its website, booklets, flyers, local newpapers, as well as its information corner at the MCDC Community Resource Centre. In November 2010, MCDC's 10th anniversary will be a source of great joy and pride for a small community that, not that long ago, was struggling and is now vibrant and thriving again.
