Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 11:52AM Laval is home to the fastest-growing English-speaking population in Quebec, yet many need to travel to Montreal to access resources in English. In order to get a better understanding of the needs of the population, CEDEC helped the Laval Networking and Partnership Initiative and the Institut National de Santé Publique du Quebec to organize two community forums designed to gather qualitative information about Laval’s English-speaking communities.
The first forum, held on November 19, attracted more than 200 people and the second, on November 26, brought in 100 residents. Topics discussed included access to health and social services, economy, employment, environment, youth and seniors health and mental health.
The qualitative information gathered at these community forums will be used to develop a portrait of Laval’s English-speaking population. The resulting portrait will be used to help organizations and government develop locally-relevant projects to address the issues identified, shed light on challenges that are not well-understood and develop tools, educational materials and training on community development for English-speaking communities in Quebec.
