North Shore Community Association
The North Shore Community Association (NSCA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to instilling pride within the English-speaking community living on the North Shore. The aim of the Association is to empower North Shore residents by working to make resources available, promoting access to services, and raising awareness among the greater community. The mandate of the NSCA is to develop and maintain a knowledge base about the English-speaking community of the North Shore; to increase access and knowledge of services and resources for the English-speaking community within the region, and to increase a sense of cohesion and participation in the English-speaking community.
The North Shore Community Association also aims to support and showcase the English-speaking community and its heritage and culture and to strengthen communication and visibility within the English-speaking community. In the early 1980s, the North Shore had two chapters of Alliance Quebec in Baie-Comeau and Port-Cartier/Sept-Îles. But due to distance and dwindling numbers it was difficult to maintain. On September 23rd, 2000, the English-speaking population of the region voted unanimously in favour of creating a regional association and the North Shore Community Association was established at a founding meeting in Port-Cartier.
