The Institut national de santé publique in Quebec city is currently working on a community development project focused on English-speaking communities in Quebec and is offering a paid work placement for the fall 2010. The goal of the project is to better understand English-speaking communities in Quebec and to support them in implementing a community development that will foster healthy communities and individuals. We will be carrying out qualitative, participatory community portraits with 5 pilot communities. The candidate must be very comfortable in both English and French (oral and written) and must have a good understanding of qualitative research methods.

JOB OFFER: Youth Coordinator: Living Together- Intercommunity relations in St Laurent
The teams at The Montreal Consortium of Human Rights Advocacy and Training(MCHRAT), in collaboration with the YMCA of St Laurent and the Centre de Culture et Loisirs de St Laurent are developing a youth leadership project in St Laurent. ‘Living Together- Intercommunity relations in St Laurent’ - Is a youth program for approximately 20 young people, that will take place between October 2010 and May 2011. Through a series of workshops and weekend retreats that will combine entertainment and fun with group building and project planning, participants will build trust and understanding while working towards the eventual implementation of a larger common goal in their community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and undertake recruitment process for youth
• Develop framework for the youth program in cooperation with the Program’s Community Organizer and project team
• Coordinate and implement workshops and retreats
• Manage group relations, conflict, team building and overall smooth functioning of youth leadership Program, culminating with a community project
• Participate in program steering committee meetings once a month
• Plan and organize work tasks to meet schedules and/or timelines set for project implementation
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of project
Qualifications:
• Minimum required - D.E.C , Cegep diploma. University specialization preferred
• Experience working with youth and/or youth leadership programs
• Bilingual, Fluency in spoken English and French is critical.
Competencies:
• Be willing to work a flexible schedule
• Knowledge and involvement in Jewish community, Arab community or both would be an asset
