Quebec 4-H Association

The Quebec 4-H Association (Q4H), which celebrated 40 years in 2009, got its start when Calf Clubs along with Boys and Gilrs Clubs began cropping up throughout Quebec and Canada in the early part of the last century. In 1969 local clubs joined to form Quebec Young Farmers. In 2003, the association, which regroups English-speaking rural youth across the province, became Quebec 4-H. Open to youths aged six to 25, the group has about 450 members in 13 clubs.

The aims and objectives of the Q4H are to promote the personal development of youth in agricultural and rural communities. It is also helping to shape the future of agriculture in the province. With guidance from adult volunteer leaders, youths run their own clubs working together to make decisions and carry out projects and activities. Q4H helps youth become the future leaders for rural communities by providing opportunities to increase dedication and commitment, form stronger social networks, develop greater employment and leadership skills, enhance self confidence and increase ability to work with adults and peers.
