Strategic Priorities Forum

The Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN) has undertaken a community priority-setting process for the English-speaking community of Quebec. This process is governed by the Priority Setting Steering Committee (PSSC), a permanent standing committee of the QCGN’s Board of Directors. This committee undertakes its mandate in the interest of the community sector serving our community.
Since September, the QCGN has called upon community partners, stakeholders and leaders that have a sense of loyalty and attachment to the English-speaking community to get involved in this forum that will play a key role in informing federal government partners in planning their intergovernmental, interdepartmental and intradepartmental activities that support our community. In total, 19 community consultations have been held with regional and sectoral organizations from throughout the province.
The process, which will build upon the rich experience of all of Quebec’s regions and sectors, is providing a unique opportunity for English-speaking leaders to come together and determine province-wide community priorities. Our ultimate goal is for our community to speak with a strong, united voice, to effectively communicate our needs and challenges. The timing of this process is crucial since the government will be exploring policy and program initiatives that will be included in its next five-year strategy to support Official Language Minority Communities, including Quebec’s English-speaking community.
The Larger Picture
The consultation is a standing five-year process, called the Strategic Priorities Forum. The Strategic Priorities Forum begins in its first year with a Community Priority Setting Conference scheduled for March 23-25, 2012. Priorities identified during the conference will then be revisited by the community sector in consultation with the PSSC once a year for four years to ensure their validity, and to evaluate our collective progress towards reaching five-year goals. In the final year of the Strategic Priorities Forum, another Community Priority Setting Conference will be held helping us set our path for the next five years.
