Townshippers' Association
Townshippers' Association is a not-for-profit association led by a volunteer board of directors that represents different sectors of the English-speaking community in the Eastern Townships. Townshippers' aims to promote the interests of the English-speaking community in the historical Eastern Townships; strengthen the cultural identity of their community, and encourage the full participation of the English-speaking population in the community at large.
The Association, which has almost 4,000 members, achieves its mission through a variety of initiatives including Townshippers' Day and the Outstanding Townshippers Awards that celebrate and support community involvement, social exchange and volunteer achievements. Initiatives also include carrying out a health and social services needs assessment, networking with seniors, supporting mental health, coordinating volunteers, and providing information to the English-speaking community about available services. Health and social services committees are in continuous contact with decision makers and service providers, working with them to improve access to services in English.
The Association also believes the future of its community depends upon a new generation that is better integrated into the economic and employment sector, and that is the focus of the Townshippers of Tomorrow committee. The association also provides an Information and Referral Service, which offers confidential responses to questions from individuals concerning a wide gamut of topics.
